Vision
Regional vocational excellence
Purpose
The FNQ Vocational Academy offers senior secondary students the opportunity to gain both a QCE and vocational qualifications which will facilitate pathways into further training and employment aligned with current and future regional industry needs.
How it Operates
The FNQ Vocational Academy program is delivered over two years. Commencing in January of each year, the program provides students a pathway to study senior secondary subjects, participate in trade training, and complete work experience. At the successful completion of the program, students will have completed two vocational qualifications, and obtained their Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE). In addition, students will have gained vocational experience and developed the knowledge and skills to be successful in their chosen career. Students will also have the opportunity to gain a school-based apprenticeship or traineeship.
This program is delivered in conjunction with mentoring opportunities, career education, health and wellbeing programs, industry engagement, and financial literacy to develop resilient and ready workers.
Location
The program will be delivered at TAFE Queensland Cairns campus (corner of Gatton, Newton, Eureka and Wilkinson Streets, Manunda). Maritime training will be delivered at the Great Barrier Reef International Marine College (GBRIMC), 55-61 Tingira Street, Portsmith, Cairns.
Trade training will occur at either the TAFE campus, the Marine College, or Aviation Australia. Work experience will be offsite as negotiated with employers, staff, parents and students.
School staff are located at the TAFE Queensland Cairns campus where all school subjects are delivered. Students have access to TAFE facilities such as the library and canteen.
